The frequency ranges assigned by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) for use by law enforcement, police, and public safety agencies are 450.000 – 470.000 mhz, 470.000 – 512.000 mhz, 806.000 – 940.000 mhz, 851.000 – 866.000 MHz and 866.000 – 869.000 mhz.

0.45 Mhz is common for police, 154.00 through 156.00 is common, also 806.000 through 940.000 MHz is the public safety band and many Police Scanner with be within this range.

There are not any common scanner frequencies because each police unit uses frequencies for its own areas. For example, the Alabama state police frequency will not be the same as the Texas state police frequency. It helps if you know who operates in a given frequency range in an area.
