You can actually use a sponge to create a faux brick effect on your walls. Cut three sponges to the same size as a brick and dip in red paint.

Use painter's tape to tape out the rectangle shapes and paint with a brush one brick color. Then sponge one darker and lighter shades to create the illusion.

Mask off brick shapes with 1.5" painters tape. Paint a "brick" color, and use a natural sea sponge to apply a second "brick" color, to add interest.

Think long and hard about painting brick. This is permanent. Once you do this you would have to sand blast it to get it off. You would use the same technique that you use for walls. Same paints and glaze.
