What are red bands for?

Currently there are two causes that have red bands. One cause is to raise awareness and to pursue a cure for multiple sclerosis. This band has the word "HOPE" written on it. The other cause is to raise awareness for the situation in Burma. This band for Burma has the words "Red Band For Burma" written on it.

The British Heart foundation (BHF) uses the red bands to promote its campaign against heart attack, one of the biggest health threats in the UK.

When silicone bracelets were first introduced, red bands were used by the British Heart Foundation to raise awareness of heart disease. Now they are largely just fashion bands.
