You can apply for a debt consolidation loan, speak with a debt counselor and create a plan address your debt problems. Each of these options will have rules and restrictions depending on your current debt, income and ability to repay on time.

You can always file for bankruptcy, but that should be done only as a last resort. Other than that i would recommend canceling all credit cards and contacting creditors to see if they will allow you to make a payment plan to pay off your debt.

I was told there were three kinds of options: debt settlement, bankruptcy and debt consolidation.I do think debt consolidation and debt settlement are much better alternatives then bankruptcy .

You can call a debt consolidation agency, which can be found in your phone book or through an internet search. They can negotiate with your creditors to lower your rate and advise you regarding filing for bankruptcy.
