A June bug (Phyllophagia) is also known as a Green June Beetle. They are can heavily damage crops by burrowing tunnels in the soil, causing young plants to die. These bugs can grow up to almost 1 inch long. They live from the Midwest to the Eastern United States and often come out when the crops are ripening.

These insects are real and they are abundant in the spring and summer months. They are attracted to street lamps or porch lights at night. They can land on you with a thud and having sticky feet, they are not easy to remove. They are pests and the larva can ruin crops or lawns.

Yup they are real and that really is their name! They are beetles that come out at night (and some during the day).
