Never starve yourself, starvation is counterproductive if you are interested in muscle production. Aside for malnutrition risks, your muscles will be the first thing to break down during the metabolic process once you start consuming less food than you require on a daily basis. Starvation diets are bad for muscles.

When a person is not eating enough food to sustain his or her body, that person's muscles (including both "strength"-type muscles and heart muscle, etc. ) are broken down to provide the body with essential nutrition. Your body literally eats itself.

Starvation diets are unhealthy. Your body will break down muscle mass for fuel, and you will lose both muscle mass and muscle tone.
