Essential amino acids (the building blocks of proteins) are those amino acids which can not be made by the body, and thus must be included in the diet. In humans, there are eight essential amino acids: phenylalanine, valine, threonine, tryptophan, isoleucine, methionine, leucine, and lysine.

A human body can create some proteins from amino acids. But there are some proteins which your body cant manufacture. You gain these proteins from your food. Without these proteins you will die.
