Maxx, a black labrador,my best friend and companion recently died, he was 8 years old. He was 100 lbs. He lived on a ranch, and had more free options to chew and ingest. I would find in his vomitus grass, manure, and bone. He died of intestinal obstruction. Incredible dog

We just put our 11 and half yellow lab to sleep. He was the best dog ever. The vet said he had internal bleeding. He went from bad to worse in a matter of a couple of days. He had bad hips and arthritis and was on meds. So sad

The most common cause of death in all dogs not just retrievers is old age. The second leading cause of death is cancer.

One of the leading causes of death amongst Labs is canine asphyxia. Choking deaths among Labs is considerably higher than among other breeds as the airways are smaller in proportion to their larnyx size.

I so extremely lucky. My Yellow Lab, 85 lbs. is almost 16 1/2. He's my soul dog. He's struggling now with arthritis and had 3 vistibular episodes (like a stroke), but still walks anywhere from 1-2 miles a day with me. He's incredible. Will be sad when he goes.

Had to put my chocolate lab out of her misery yesterday. She was vomiting up a lot of blood...and also coming from her rectum...She was 11 and 2 months...I believe the bleeding was brought on from 4 days of IV steroids to treat her arthritis... love her so!

My energetic black lab was put to sleep yesterday. He will be 9 this may. He was so active and cheerful as he was ever all these days. Went ill a week before and was surviving on fluids, Vet said its due to oldage and suffered liver failure. Its v.painful.
