What are clay drainage pipes used for?

My mother said that I should get clay drainage pipes instead of the standard ones and I want to understand why they are better.

Well clay or terra cotta pipe is very durable. It typically last quite awhile however it is hard to cut and is pretty brittle. PVC is lighter, cheaper, and easier to work with. however it is thinner and may be more likely to burst.

Clay pots are known for absorbing water when a plant is watered, thus preventing a plant from being overwatered. Clay drainage pipes could be used to move drainage water away from a house, and then the water will eventually seep out of the clay and into the ground.

Clay drainage pipes are more reliable than the standard drainage pipes available in the market because the formers are not perishable, they do not get rotten and are reliable for generations.
