Prepare a statement. Be prepared to answer questions. Think things through before you speak. Mind your demeanor, body language, word choice and tone.

Best heads-up advice? Attend!! Don't EVER miss a parole hearing. You have the right to be represented by counsel. You have the right to introduce evidence of a change in your circumstances and ask for parole to be modified, but really you need to stay in touch with your officer.

When the Michigan Parole and Commutations Board considers parole applications, they need to be satisfied that if paroled, the offender will not again become a menace to society or threat to public safety. To help ensure equal consideration, the parole board uses a mathematical formula that considers criminal history, prison behavior record, age, risk and other such factors.

The best advice for a parole hearing is to ensure that you are really ready to apologize and show remorse.

You should appear sincere and sorry. Look remorseful and apologize, don't talk back. Agree with what ever the judge says.
