Make sure you hook up the wires correctly the first time. You can use a test light or a multimeter to help identify the correct wires. 3M makes excellent t-tap connectors for tapping into electrical wires. They are inexpensive and you don't have to use any wire strippers, solder, tools, or anything.

First, do a careful and complete inspection of the hookup itself. Are there any frayed, disconnected ends? Are there wires that are completely eroded? Next, add any clamps that can amply secure the wires that could be exposed and eventually come loose from exposure.

When wiring anything on a vehicle, you need to first figure out the amp load of the circuits involved, use quality braided copper wire, if you are relocating the hookup, the wire size must increase accordingly. The most important thing is knowing when to get a professional involved in the repair.
