From what i believe, some radio shows were saying he was a marine sniper, but this didn't match up with any of his biographical information. They said that he had one hundred and fifty kills in the Vietnam War, but at this time he would be to old to serve. So the answer is no.

Persistent rumors say Mr. Rogers was a Marine sniper or a Navy SEAL with many kills in Viet Nam. These rumors are untrue. Mr. Rogers never served in the military.

There were several rumors that Mr. Rogers was a marine sharpshooter during the Vietnam War. There are also rumors that he was a Navy Seal. None of these rumors are true. He never served in the military, and was just as sweet and soft spoken as he was on his long running childrens television show.

Yes, in his younger years Mr. Rogers from the PBS children's show Mr. Rogers Neighborhood was indeed in the army. There are rumors stating that the reason he always wears long sleeved sweaters is because his arms are covered in tattoos from his army days.

Mr. Rogers was too young to fight in World War II (he graduated high school in 1946). He attended college right after high school, and married right after graduation, so he was never drafted into the peacetime army. The urban legend that he was a Navy SEAL is totally false.

Mr. Rogers was never in the Army. He studied at Dartmouth and Rollins College, earning a BA in music composition in 1951. He entered seminary in 1963. In the meantime, he did work in children's programming, but he was never in the Army.

Mr. Rogers was not ever in the Army. After high school, he attended Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire, from 1946-1948. He then transferred to and eventually graduated from Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida, with a bachelor's degree in music composition in 1951. He also graduated in 1963 from the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary.

Fred Rogers (Mr. Rogers to us all) was never in any branch of the military. After graduating from Rollins College in 1951, he started his broadcast career and never stopped.

No. I too received an e-mail saying crazy things about him being a sniper. I did some research and found it was not true.
