If would like to keep your garage comfortable in extreme weather then insulating your garage ceiling would be a good idea. Insulation can aid in the retardation of fire. Thick bats of fiberglass can be used to insulate your ceiling. Be sure to check the thickness and R-Value to be sure you have adequate protection.

The best options would be either styrofoam or cork, as both are great insulators. For a waterproof result, a plastic coat between it and the ceiling would work.
