This decision is determined by a back doctor. After a car accident I suffered pain in my upper back.An MRI revealed the pain was caused by 3 permanently damaged disks.A series of 10 shots twice per week for 12 months gradually reduced pain. 9 years later,I have occasional pain when physically/mentally stressed. My advice is try shots before considering surgery.

Back pain can be a tremendous problem for some individuals, and one option is to get cortisone shots on a regular basis. This can actually really help people who are recovering from injuries or have a chronic condition such as arthritis which is causing them pain. As is the case with all treatments, one should consult their doctor before proceeding.

If you are in sever pain a shot in the back with some Cortisone can be exactly what you need. Some people have allergic reactions like a sharp pain in the back after the shot, but for the most part the shots can be very helpful with swelling and pain.

Steroid injection into the spinal column to relieve back pain is a safe and easy procedure to have. There are very few risks and the procedure is nearly painless.

Considering shots alone give you pain and your back is sensitive due to the spine, then yes, shots in the back for pain should be avoided because they will only cause more pain.

If someone is getting an injection for pain, it is usually an extremely strong dose and one should avoid such a pain treatment mechanism if at all possible. There are Morphine injections that doctors can give for severe pain, but Morphine is highly addictive, and other pain relief methods should be exhausted before considering such an option.

Sometimes it is not advisable to take shots in the back. However if the pain is unbearable and the doctor advises us to take the shots we have no other alternative but to take it. First of all we should try the alternative means other than the shots and finally if nothing works then take shots.
