Should labor be over within 24 hours of your water breaking?

My water broke 24 hours ago and I still have not had my baby.

You risk having a dry birth which can jeopardize your baby. Most doctors will not let you go 24 hours after the plug falls out--maybe you are just leaking.

Sometimes labor can last a couple of days, but after the water membranes break, there is a possibility of infection being introduced.

If your water breaks then you should go the the ER IMMEDIATELY. When your water breaks it means the baby is ready to come out. The longer you wait the higher chance of complications during labor. The baby could be in distress.
