Interior doors can be both solid or hollow. Solid doors are great for durability and even sound but are more expensive. Hollow doors are very affordable and are readily available with many types and patterns.

As a general rule, interior doors should be hollow and depending on the desired noise reduction quality, they can be purchased with an insulating foam filler. The only exception being an indoor entry from living quarters to non-living quarters (i.e. garage). In which case code requires a fire door.
