In addition to the quality of the siding products, you must consider the quality of the installation and the surface over which is was applied. Rely on your home inspector to look into the exterior condition of the house and advise you accordingly.

If the Louisiana Pacific siding is in good condition it is a safe bet for a home. For added security you can have it treated with an insect repellent. If you want to be exta safe just safe up and have the LP siding pulled down and replace with aluminum siding a few years.

Not all of it has problems, but it is so notorious for having problems that financing companies may not allow you to get a loan if it shows to have any problems at all. Get a good inspection, and if it shows to have problems, get it fixed before buying.

The key in buying a home with LP siding is being sure that it is inspected thoroughly. Any sign at all of rotting and you definitely want to run the other way. Also, many lenders won't finance a home with the siding because of the recall and lawsuits.
