Should I be worried if my 1-year-old has a cough?

coughing should be self limiting. Continual coughing can signal asthma or an infection in a one year old. Allergies can come into play or problems with sinuses. A cough that last too long or is noticed in certain environments or conditions such as a weather change, should be evaluated. A hoarse cough can indicated throat swelling.

Not necessarily. Kids are tricky. Even at a young age, they might fake a cough to gain attention. (Seriously, my 8 month old does it and then laughs). However, do pay attention to other tell-tale signs of sickness. If the cough is accompanied by fever, sneezing, runny nose, or excessive crying I would recommend taking them to see a doctor

Of course you should be worried your 1-year-old is just a baby and could be seriously ill! Go see a doctor!

As long as the cough remains mild and not prolonged, I dont think there are any reason to worry. If the cough persists for more than a weak, you should consult a doctor.
