Noises coming from the engine that are loud enough to be heard inside of the car are a reason for concern. Most likely causes could be a belt slipping, low power steering fluid, low oil, or engine damage. You should have the car inspected by a qualified mechanic immediately.

Yes, since oil should sufficiently lubricate engine parts that noise is minimized, and parts should fit together well enough to dampen any virbations. Check first to make sure you have enough oil. Consider the help of a qualified mechanic if noises persist.

Yes, noise from the engine is generally a serious symptom. You should not continue driving if the engine light is flashing or the oil light is on. The same is true if you hear grinding noises from the engine. Take the car to a mechanic to get checked out.

It depends on what kind of noises. All engines make noise; that's why your car has a muffler. But different things can go wrong that will make different kind of noises. Talk to someone who knows a lot about cars and let them hear the noise.

That depends on what kind of noises. A knocking sound deep in your motor could be serious. A rattling noise could be something that just needs tightening. Whatever the noise have someone check it before it becomes serious and ends up costing you even more.
