During every spring, the area in which the nest has been found should be treated with some pesticide. There are also other tricks like blocking their wholes using rocks or some sand. Normally, while it might not be your whole yard, however, hornets tend to go back to their original place.

Hornets usually come back to the place where they originated, but probably not your whole yard. Treat the place where you found the nest with insecticide every spring.

Yes there are granular pesticide treatments that can be purchased at your local hardware store. Also be sure to seal up their holes with a rock or dirt.

PT Wasp-Freeze (Hornet Spray) for fast termination. Effective spray distance is 15 feet, so that personal safety is ensured. Safe for both indoors and outdoors, as well as near electrical appliances due to high insulation properties. Precaution - spraying at dusk preferred (insects are less active and back in nest).

The most effective plant that is mentioned as a wasp repellent is Wormwood (Artemisia). This plant produces a bitter substance that repels many insects. Planting a border of Wormwood should help.

I've used Joy Dishwashing liquid, as simple as it sounds, to accomplish this. Just mix a gallon of water with a 16 oz. bottle, add to a mister, and cover the lawn. I don't know if other brands would work.

Well there is some yard treatment that will help. You can basically just spray sulphur all over the yard to prevent them from coming back. This truly works to achieve what you want.

Yes there is. Mix a teaspoon of dry mustard and a quart of warm water and spray the area they had been in and that will deter them.

The best solution I know of is just human vigilance in watching for them, this uses no chemicals unless they return.
