My three year old is manipulative - what can I do about it?

His behavior is getting more and more manipulative with everyone.

Answer by  ashleightindall (32)

His behavior is that way because it is getting him what he wants. If a child finds behaviors that works, its repeated to get the same outcome. If you don't want this behavior repeated don't give in to it- act like it isn't happening and allow the desired outcome when the desired behavior is exhibited.

You have to be loving but firm. Do not give in to his manipulation. He is old enough to have some punishments, too.

Give him two choices, it gives you both control. Be consistant, do not give in; after a period of time, he will trust that he will make the final decision.

There are reasons for this one is he might be youngest in your family or he might be only one any way do not try to be firm correct him when ever he does a mistake. Play with him often try to spend quality time with him. Do not give what ever he asks.

This is a normal stage. Be consistent and make sure that the manipulation does not work. Do not reward the behavior and it will go away.

Since you are aware, it should be fairly easy to control. When you notice him trying to manipulate you, don't give in and he will get over it.
