My left armpit had an itching sensation 3 days ago. Why is the area now numb?

I can see no sign of an insect bite--just the numbing sensation with itching in some areas.

Inexplicable itching is a symptom of either an allergen, or a skin condition, such as melanoma. Melanoma is particularly suspected if there is a mole. The numbness could be caused by the excessive itching.

The itching sensation was due to irritation of tissue that can be caused by lots of things: allergy to certain material, food, chemicals, creams, detergents , and is mediated by the sensory receptors in your skin. It is not uncommon for them to become desensitized after that, with a period of numbness following. If persistent go to a dermatologist.

I can't tell you exactly why this is happening, but I can tell you that if that is what is going on that you really should go see a doctor, as this is not normal. It could be that you developed a very serious allergic reaction to something and you need to have it looked at.

This may be a symptom of an allergic reaction - aluminum compounds in deodorants are some of the more common irritants. If you stop use of your deodorant and apply antihistamine cream with not change, see your doctor.
