Several things could cause voice loss. Upper respiratory infection, feline asthma, nasal discharge from colds, and a bacterial infection known as Pasteurella. All these could be treated by your veterinarian.

There are multiple causes for feline laryngitis. If your cat has been especially vocal, she may simply have irritated her vocal cords. If the cat does not get her voice back within a couple of days, or if she shows any other signs of illness or distress, she should see a veterinarian for treatment as soon as possible.

She could have been meowing or howling for some reason and she just needs to rest her voice. It could also be something more serious, such as something blocking her vocal cords or something pressing against them. You should take her to the vet to make sure her throat is ok.

You can take the cat to a vet to see if it is a permanent condition related to an illness, but it is likely to be temporary cause by strain. Give the cat a week for their vocal cords to get a rest, and then see where you are. This is rarely permanent.
