You have to give him space and allow him to trust. Be the same and do not do things in a hurried way as this will cause alarm.

Time, patience, understanding, lots of love, positive reenforcement. Obedience training also works very well. Dont push him into something that may provoke fear agression or biting.

He may be skiddish for a while, especially around loud noises or sudden movements. This will wane as he grows more secure. Take him to the vet to dismiss injuries.

First, thank you! There are a few things to keep in mind when taking in an abused dog. It's important that you let the dog warm up to you; not pushing yourself on it. As good old Cesar Milan says; the dog won't remember the abuse once it gets settled in the home and with its new "pack"... your family.

When dealing with abused animals, never hit them, raise your hand like you are going to hit them or grab at them when they have done something wrong. Raising your voice isn't good either because it causes them to tense up. Many animals who have been abused need love, just like human beings. Treat them like you would a child.
