Hair loss occurs in approximately 65% of dogs suffering from hypothyroidism. You should also expect lethargy, weight gain, a lot of shedding, hyper-pigmentation of its skin, intolerance to cold, high blood cholesterol, anemia, and a slow heart rate. Hopefully your dog has been put on a synthetic thyroid hormone.

Hypothroidism among canines can cause hair loss though the most usual signs are weight gain, lack of energy, and an intolerance for exercise. It is also one of the most common reasons for infertility among dogs.

Yes, although there are a number of other reasons that can also bring about hair loss for dogs. It could also be ringworm, mange, allergies, or other various causes. It is best to consult a vet to find out exactly.
