Get the EGR valve checked. It should be closed when the engine is cold or idling and open when it is warm or accelerating. a problem here could also cause a random misfire.

Clean up your fuel injectors and most probably the problem will be solved. A clogged injector causes erratic fuel supply to the engine and random misfires.

This was the problem in my car after it had run 30000 odd miles. Luckily the service station cleaned it and now the engine sounds great!  add a comment

If you're handy and want to do it yourself, you can buy the cable, and download the software free from the site below. However, without the factory manual you won't know which parameters to monitor, or know how to interpret the data.

Check for a vacuum leak in the intake manifold and throttle body. A vacuum reading of less than 15 inches can indicate a vacuum leak or a problematic valve that is causing the random misfire. You can find this by carefully listening to your engine.

Only a really trained ear will pick out the sucking or whistling noise. I suggest you use a smoke machine or a propane bottle to help you detect the leak.  add a comment

This is quite common in many cars. This can be due to a few things but is almost always the coil pack. Coil packs can be replaced easily.
