Baking Soda is used in every baked food item as a leavening agent, however it is not advisable to ingest large amounts of it in any food item. Large amounts can result in dryness of skin, stomach rupture and sometimes it might lead to internal stomach damage also. It should always be consumed in a limited manner.

It is not harmful, but it will probably make the food taste unpleasant. Too much baking powder will make the food taste salty.
