During breeding season for ants, both the males and females develop wings as they turn to adults. This allows them to relocate to colonize new nests away from the central nest, to reduce competition for food.

Yes.The big black ants get wings in winter season and come out in thousands in the evening after the sunset. They live in underground nests and will become normal once the season is over. But they will dig deep in to the foundation and make holes in the walls.

Yes there are some ant species that can fly. Some black and even red ants have wings or wing-like structures allowing some degree of flight. There are also other flying insects that have similar body structures compared to ants, which may give the appearance of a black flying ant.

The only ants that fly are the queen and drones when they are in their mating flight, usually in the spring. If it is now summer where you live, then these insects are more likely termites.
