Is there anything I can do about a slow broadband connection?

Slow broadband connections my not be the internet service. It may be the performance of the computer. I would do a performance check on my computer first.

Unless you intend to change your internet plan, you should limit the programs using up the connection in the background and try to limit multitasking.

Well from my experience the best thing you can do to improve your speed is to upgrade to a better router. The ones your ISP can be slow and restrictive. However you must contact them to allow it to use your same connection.

Look for applications that may be slowing down your connection, such as automatic software updates that constantly poll the vendor website (including Windows and Antivirus). Also thoroughly check your computer for malicious software, since this could include someone sending out many messages through your computer or controlling it remotely.

If you are using cable, relay the cable in your house, make sure to cap off any unused outlets. If you are using dsl make sure all the lines have the filters on them.
