Recover lost Word documents on Word XP by restarting Word (after a crash, etc.). If the document was lost through accidental deletion, it could be recovered by using the Windows Restore from a previous backup. If the document was lost another way, you'll need to buy file recovery software.

In most cases yes. If the file was just deleted, it may be in the recycle bin. If it was deleted and removed from the recycle bin, then software like Undelete or Recuvra may be able to restore it.

You won't like my answer: yes and no. It depends. The OS doesn't matter much, it all depends where your lost documents were: if they were on the system partition, it is possible that the disk space might have already been overwritten. Also, it has not been specified if they were on the local harddisk or on an USB key.

The easiest way to recover lost documents on XP or any other OS is if you have a backup on a external hard drive.
