This is a good question. Before considering any treatment you should consult your local doctor. Just because a treatment works well for someone else doesn't mean it will, or is even safe for you. If you have any allergies or reactions that you know of let your family doctor know.

There are a number of possible health risks to using simethicone for long periods of time. Some of the worst include: possible development of stomach cancer, chronic diarrhea, electrolyte imbalances, impaired kidney function and an increased risk for rickets. Other lesser problems can include bloating, poor digestion and increased risk for stomach infections.

Yes, there is a danger, and before you engage in regular long term use of anatcids, you should work with your physician if there are other underlying issues. Infrequent, intermittent use of antacids can be useful, and since they are short acting, they can often provide you temporary relief.

I use other forms of simethicone, (PEPSID) and I have been using it for over 10 years on a daily basis and no problems for me.

Simethicone is a defoaming agent that breaks down small bubbles in the stomach. Long-term use can produce serious medical problems. Ask your Doctor.

Not medical advice: Anything that is used long term has some effect. Simethicone can interfere with the absorption of nutrients in the intestines. Check with your GP.
