Question by  Chris10 (21)

Is there an over the counter medication that is good for stomach lining inflammation?

The rx medicine that the doctor gave me is very expensive and I would like to try something that is more cost effective.

A lot of medications for stomach inflammation have now been approved for over-the-counter sales. Talk to the pharmacist about which ones might stand in for your prescription medication. He cannot state with authority what works, but he can make excellent recommendations.

Anti-acid can be used to conteract the production of stomach acid. Many histimine inhibitors can be used to treat stomach inflammations alongside with proton pump inhibitors to reduce the inflammation. In case of of an infection causing inflammation an antibiotic has to be used in this situation that would stop the infection.

You can take antacids, PPI, or h2 receptors to help your stomach lining. Some drugs you can look at and speak with the pharmacist are Prilosec OTC , and Ranitidine 75 or 150mg. Some cheaper fast working products are Tums or Rolaids. You might have gas as a side effect.
