When you buy the magicjack, the hardware is what cost you $40. Any phone service is going to cost you money. You should be happy to get a free year, thats a great value. The price for magic jack is only $4 a month anyway. You can relax.

If you purchased a Magic Jack, you original paid $39.95 plus shipping and handling. That provides your first year of service for free, after-wards it is $19.95 per year.

There is an annual fee with the Magic Jack. The first year is free with purchase of the equipmen and following years are $19.95 for limited calling area.

I agree that Magic Jack is a annual fee based service. The first time $40 is for the Magic Jack hardware and the 1st month service.
