Is there a way to soften the color of a wall?

The paint is too bright, but I'd rather work with it than cover it entirely.

Adding a glaze would be a good option as using lighting for the purpose of softening the color of the wall is not an environmentally good thing and it will come heavily on your pocket too. If that doesn’t work than it is better to repaint the wall.

You can soften the color of a wall by adding a glaze. A gray or brown glaze is a transparent finish that can be applied to the bright paint to soften the color.

Good lighting can be one of your best friends here. Use low lighting near the walls and direct bright lights away from the walls, maybe up toward the ceiling. You might also try track lights with amber or rose colored light bulbs directed at the wall to soften it.

To soften the color of a wall try using a technique called color wash. This can be done by taking a using color wash glaze and sponge lightly over your walls. Apply the sponge technique is short soft strokes. Not only will it soften your walls, but it will create a unique effect.

Try using a white base paint that will play down the paint and make it have softer tones, that way its not as harsh.Don't use too much for the base coat.
