Is there a way of adding a timer to Excel?

Excel supports Visual Basic macros. A macros can be programmed in Visual Basic, which is tied to a button. Clicking the button would start the timer and upon completion of the scheduled time, it can display a message or update some values in the sheet. The time can also pick up the time from a certain cell.
