A great book about discipline and education is "Teaching with Love and Logic: Taking Control of the Classroom" by Jim Fay and David Funk. It helps teachers learn to get compliance from students without power struggles.

A book? There are hundreds upon thousands of them! From homeschooling manuals, to sociological journals about how things are currently, to antiquated texts from by-gone days. Really, if there is a way you wish children to be taught or disciplined, I'm certain there is a book about it. Whether any of them are followed local schools is a different matter.
