The original rhesus factor was derived in the laboratory using the blood of the rhesus monkey as an antigen to which the antibodies were raised, the term rhesus factor came from the scientists working with it to remind them of the serum origin.

The Rhesus blood factor is the blood group determination that is designated as either positive or negative. It is related to the Rhesus monkey because this is where the blood groups were first discovered. They were later discovered in humans also; providing the link between monkeys ansd man.
