Pneumonia is not contagious, but whatever underlying condition that caused pneumonia is. For example, the cold or sinus infection that led to the pneumonia can still be spread. Pneumonia is just the inflammation and subsequent fluid buildup in the lungs. It is caused by a primary infection or other cause.

Not really, pneumonia is an infection of the lungs that starts out as a cold or virus. The infection spreads to the lungs and results in pneumonia. A person may pass the initial cold or virus germs to another person but they can't pass the pneumonia infection to someone else.

Pneumonia is not contagious alone. Pneumonia is caused either by a bacteria or a virus. It is these organisms that actually make a disease such as pneumonia contagious. Proper sanitation like hand-washing can help eliminate the spread of these contagious organisms.
