It is not safe to use all purpose cleaner on hardwood floors, it leaves a film on them that has to be wiped off with a damp rag. The best thing that I have found is to use a hardwood floor steam cleaner made just for hardwood floors, it works great and makes leaves the floors film free.

Using a cleaner that is specially formulated for the specific floor is a smart option. For wood floors, use a cleaner that contains oil to treat the wood.

What kind of finish is on the floor? If the floor is sealed, you can use an all purpose floor cleaner. Regular sweeping and mopping is enough for most hardwood floors. Avoiding water damage is crucial, though, so know what kind of finish your floor has and buy appropriate products. You can find many on the web.

Since hardwood is a special type of flooring, I would suggest not using all purpose cleaners. These may be too harsh for the hardwood, and could cause costly damage.
