The VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) program provides free Federal tax prep for low income (typically under $50,000) or for people over 65. The IRS offers "Free File" at their web site. Some tax software is free after April 15. You have until October to file your return.

It is possible to get your taxes done for free by bartering services with a tax accountant or learning to do them yourself. Look online for instructions.
