It is perfectly okay to buy a cheap textbook, as long as it is the correct edition that you need for the class (check the ISBN number!). When purchasing books online, it generally tells you the condition of the book, and as long as it is in good condition, it can't hurt to save a few bucks!

It is a great idea to buy a cheap textbook. Otherwise college would be way to expensive. I went to Michigan State University and unless the professor says to buy a specific edition go for the cheapest one. If he still requires a specific version he will explain why if you ask.

Yes, you can find great deals for all textbooks. There are textbooks in great condition for less online, or from a friend.

Check the ISBN number. If the book has the same ISBN number as the one identified in the course syllabus, it is the same book. Be careful to get the same version of the book. Used, however, is irrelevant unless it is a work book.
