Is it legal for a health insurance company to request to see your medical records?

I am concerned that my new health insurance company wants to review my medical records.

Not only is it legal, it only makes sense for the insurer to see them. Many health insurers will cover you up to $2M over your lifetime and thus, they want to know what they're getting as far as any history of health issues. It's the same when you buy a used car...you want to know of any past problems.

Chances are that you signed permission when you were at your doctor's office or hospital on one of the many fine print forms they make you fill out before they give service.
