It is very common. Ultrasounds are only as good as the technician, and only as accurate as the baby's cooperation will allow. If you know your last menstrual period (LMP) and the length of your cycle, that is the best estimate of gestational age.

More and more doctors are giving ultrasounds at different times in your pregnancy in order to ensure proper growth of the baby and rule out any possible problems with the baby. Ultrasounds are a great way for doctors to watch the growth of your baby.

There is different information that can be used to determine the gestational age. The length of the bones in leg or the size of the head can show age. Development of the organs and whether the lungs are contracting can also show age. These ages can be different as can the speed of development with spurts of growth.

An ultrasound is not 100 percent accurate when giving a gestational age of the developing baby. The position of the baby could have an impact on the measurements taken.

Not medical Advice: It is very common. The first date is an estimation sometime WE women get OUR days mixed up. The 2 is a more exact time frame when you can see and measure the fetus. Depending when you went in to confirm pregnancy with determine how the gestation age.
