Chows do have a bad reputation for unpredictable behavior, especially biting. You should make sure your dog receives good obedience training, always walk on a leash, restrict free play with children and discourage rough play of any kind. That means, no tug of war or growling games!

This breed is very loyal to its family. They are distrustful of strangers. It is not common for them to turn on family.

Chows have a reputation as being viscious dogs. However, every dog is different, and just because a particular breed is aggressive, it does not mean that a particular dog is. A chow is more likely than most other breeds to attack its owner, but the odds are still against it.
