Is it a good idea to give a baby that is breast feed water?

I am worried that my baby is not getting enough liquids and would like to give him water.

Check with your doctor to see what liquid should be supplemented with your breast milk. Most mothers use Pediasure or instant milk. Babies as a rule should always be given water on a daily basis.

Breastfed babies do not need any supplemental water but formula fed babies often do. Formula fed babies may need water supplements due to higher salt level being hard on kidneys.

If your child is breastfeeding and gaining wait properly, he is sufficiently hydrated. Remember, breast milk is water and nutrients provided in a stream to the baby - that is hydration for the child.

Yes, you can give water. But no other liquid should be given other than breast milk and water till six months and above of its age. Sure,it is a good idea to give breast feed water to babies. During summer they feel very thirsty and milk is not fulfilling the thirst. So,give water for him.
