Is "Facing the Giants" a true story?

The book is a novelization of the movie, which came first. While certain elements in the story are true (Georgia football stuff), the story itself is fiction.

The movie is not based on a real true story. Although this is the case, it is however inspired by a series of unassociated stories. Also, it is said that there was an event out there that was similar to this, which occurred in Illinois where a former NFL great took over a failing team.
