Is compassion a learned behavior?

My husband is not very compassionate and I want to know if I can "teach" him to be more compassionate.

Compassion is typically learned at an early age. It can be taught to adults by rewarding when they are considerate of others. For example, when he shares in pain, offer physical affection.

Compassion starts from self-love. Remove self-hatred first. To feel love, let him imagine a person he loves the most and then expand this love toward the others.

Everybody is born with compassion some use it and other's just loose it
