When a cat's kidney starts failing diarrhea and vomiting will occur. You will also notice increase in urination (possibly with blood) and increased thirst.

No. Symptoms of kidney failure include increased thirst, increased urination, weight loss. Your cat may have an intestinal infection, a reaction to food (older cats sometimes need a change in diet). Diarrhea may also be an indication of stress. Unfortunately, it is also a symptom of lymphoma. Visit the vet!

Kidney failure is just one reason a can can have diarrhea. Others include a blockage, colitis, diet, drugs or toxins, exocrine pancreatic insufficiency, hyperthyroidism, infection, inflammatory bowel disease, liver disease, neoplasia and pancreatitis. Only a veterinarian can diagnose these conditions.
