It is not normal for a dogs stomach to swell or appear bloated when she is in heat. Stomach bloating may be the result of a serious or fatal condition. If your dog is experiencing stomach swelling (especially accompanied by retching) you should see your veterinarian right away for a proper diagnosis.

Bloating while a dog is in a heat cycle is typically normal. However, bloating can additionally be a sign of serious reproductive illness such as a pyrometra. Watch your dogcarefully for other signs of illness during heat cycles. If other symptoms such as glassy eyes or vomiting are present, take the dog to a vet.

Bloating is a medical condition where the stomach fills with gas and the intestine dies. Bloat is never normal. A females behavior may change in heat but size changes are unusual. If she recently gained a lot of weight or seems uncomfortable she should be seen by a vet.

If you think that your dog is bloating, you should take it to the vet. Mainly because there is usually more going on than you think when bloating occurs and can cause death in dogs. Usually female dogs that can go into heat don't bloat up like humans do during their cycles.

To an extent, yes. The dogs body is doing odd things, getting ready to have pups (wether pregnant or not), and she may even bleed a little. If the bloating lasts for more then a couple days, or if her stomach becomes hard, consult your vet.

During heat a bitch does become bloated. She will also become more emotional and may get aggressive. Good luck!

Bloating in a dog is not a good thing. The reason a dog is doing this is the stomach is getting overfilled and your dogs stomach is not allowing it to release the extra amount. Though, I would suggest getting a vet's opinion on such matters.
