Is bike riding a good way to exercise?

Yes, it will really help strengthen your thigh muscles. However, if you actually bike outdoors that's better than stationary because you get to see different scenery (keeping you from getting bored) Your activity won't be stagnate, you can go up and down hills, fast or slow, and turn it into a family activity too.
